י־ה־ו־ה
Not a verbal root but Israel's name for its God, whose short forms begin or end dozens of Hebrew names: Elijah, Isaiah, Joshua, John, Matthew, Tobias, Zechariah, Jeremiah, Jehu. Hallelujah ends in it, and Jehovah is the name itself, read with borrowed vowels. Its own etymology (perhaps from h-w-y 'to be') is unsettled.
