tungsten
Swedish tungsten, 'heavy stone', was the name of the dense mineral now called scheelite; English took it in the 1760s, and later used it for the metal itself, as did French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese and Japanese — while the chemical symbol W comes instead from German Wolfram.
