sycamore

Greek sȳkómoros looks like 'fig-mulberry', but many scholars think it is a Greek reshaping of the Semitic name of the tree, Hebrew šiqmāh; through Latin it reached French, Italian, Spanish and German, while in English the name drifted to European maples and, in America, to plane trees.
