quixotic
Cervantes named his deluded knight after a piece of armor: Spanish quijote 'thigh guard', from Latin coxa 'hip'. Don Quixote's hopeless chivalry gave English the word quixotic, and almost every European language — French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, Turkish — made its own word for tilting at windmills.
