pierogi

Pierogi is the Polish plural of pieróg 'filled dumpling', a word traced to Proto-Slavic *pirъ 'feast'. Its Russian cousin pirog 'pie' went on into Finnish, Estonian, Latvian and Lithuanian, and Polish immigrants brought pierogi to North America, where the word came into English already in the plural.
