monsoon
Arab sailors called the Indian Ocean's sailing season mawsim, 'the season', a word that became Swahili msimu, Malay musim, Turkish mevsim and Hindi and Urdu mausam 'weather'; Portuguese navigators took it as monção, the Dutch passed it on, and English used it first for the wind and then for the rains, a sense India borrowed back as mānsūn.
