lilac
Lilac means 'bluish': Persian nīlak, from nīl 'indigo', itself from Sanskrit nīla 'dark blue'; the shrub came to western Europe from Constantinople in the 16th century, and French lilas then gave the name of the colour to German, Dutch, Swedish, Italian and Russian.
