kaftan

A long robe called xaftān in Persian (it is already in the Shahnameh) was worn across the Ottoman world as kaftan; English met it through Russian in the 1590s. It is also the Moroccan bride's qaftan, the Hasidic Jew's kaftn, and the 1960s fashion caftan.
