jar
Arabic jarra, an earthenware water jar, was a common word of the 13th-century Mediterranean sea trade, living on in Maltese, Spanish, Portuguese, Occitan, Sicilian and Italian; through Medieval Latin, Spanish or French it reached English in the 1400s, where a jar first meant a big vessel for imported olive oil.
