jacket

A jacket may be a 'little Jacques': French jaque, a short tunic, is usually linked to Jacques (from Jacob), the stock name for a French peasant — but an Arabic-derived word for a breastplate is a rival explanation. French jaquette went on to Russia, Germany, Spain, Poland and Turkey; English jacket went on to Japan, Korea and the Philippines.
