hangul
King Sejong's alphabet of 1443–1446 was first called Hunminjeongeum, 'correct sounds for the instruction of the people'; the name hangul, 'great (or Korean) script', was coined by reformers around the early 1910s, and Japanese, Russian and English took it from Korean.
