Golgotha
Golgotha is Aramaic gulgaltā, 'the skull' — the Gospels translate it 'place of a skull' — and Latin's own translation of it, calvaria, gave English Calvary. Through the Bibles of the Christian world the name reached Armenian, Georgian, Arabic, Italian, Spanish, German and the Slavic languages, where Golgofa also means a personal ordeal.
