flannel
Flannel is soft woollen cloth, and Wales was famous for it. The name probably comes from Welsh gwlanen 'woollen article', from gwlân 'wool', a distant cousin of English wool; an Old French route is the main rival theory. English flannel then went back to French as flanelle, and from there to Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, German, Russian and Japanese.
