durian
Malay durian is 'the thorny one', from duri 'thorn'; the famously smelly fruit was first described to Europe by Niccolò de' Conti around 1440, and the word spread with the fruit across Southeast Asia — Thai thurian, Khmer thurén, Tagalog duryan, Chinese liúlián — and into English.
