Daniel, 'God is my judge', is the hero of the lions' den. The name passed almost unchanged through Greek and Latin into English, and also became Welsh Deiniol, Armenian Daniēl, Finnish Taneli, Russian Daniil and Danila, Ukrainian Danylo, Chinese Dànyǐlǐ, and Dāniyāl from Persia and India to Malaysia.
