corban

Qorbān, 'offering', is the Hebrew Bible's word for a sacrifice. In Jesus' day, Aramaic speakers used it as a vow formula ('it is corban', set apart for God), which Mark's Gospel quotes. The same word lives on as the Syriac Qurbana and the Muslim feast of Kurban.
