coolie
Coolie, a hired porter or labourer and later an indentured emigrant (and an ethnic slur), has three competing origins: the Koli people of Gujarat, a Turkic word for 'slave', and Tamil kūli 'wages'. The 19th-century coolie trade carried it to China, the Dutch Indies, the Caribbean and the Americas.
