chopsticks
Chinese boatmen avoided zhù, the old word for chopsticks, because it sounded like 'stop', and said kuài 'quick' instead; English chopstick is usually explained as a sailors' half-translation of that word, with pidgin chop 'quick'. Hokkien, the language of many of those sailors, still says tī.
