cassia

Cassia is a cheaper cousin of cinnamon. Its Greek name kasía matches Hebrew qəṣīʿā, a bark spice 'stripped off' the tree; it already appears beside myrrh in a poem by Sappho, and Latin and Church Slavonic carried it on through Europe.
