car
The Gauls' wagon, karros, impressed the Romans enough that Latin took the word as carrus; it rolled through Norman French into English and, in 1896, onto the motor car. Its Romance descendants did the same in the Americas (Mexican and Brazilian carro), Portuguese carreta became Malay kereta, and English car reached Japan and New Guinea.
