ש־ל־םس ل م
š-l-m “whole, sound, at peace” The idea of being whole and unharmed gave Hebrew šālôm 'peace' and the king's name Šĕlōmōh, Solomon, and was heard in the city name Salem. Arabic inherited the same root separately: salām 'peace', islām 'submission' and muslim 'one who submits' are cousins of shalom, not borrowings from it.
