ḥ-s-d “loyal love, kindness, piety”

Hebrew ḥeseḏ, the covenant loyalty of God and people, gave ḥāsîd 'pious, devoted one', the name of the Hasidim. Aramaic ḥesdā 'mercy' is the usual reading of Bethesda, 'house of mercy', but the manuscripts also read Bethzatha, so that member is only probable.
